Dr. Patrick Yeung, Founder of the RESTORE Center for Endometriosis, of St, Louis, Missouri, alongside his research team, is proud to announce the PrePrints publication of his game-changing research on the possibility of one-and-done endometriosis excision surgery!'
Over the course of almost a decade, and with a deep personal connection to his work, Dr. Yeung has dedicated himself to practicing optimal excision surgery. After years of debilitating pain and heartbreaking infertility, Dr. Yeung’s wife, Dorothy, experienced the life-changing results of optimal excision and they now have 5 beautiful children.
Dr. Yeung worked to determine whether treating endometriosis with optimal excision surgery, defined as completely excising all areas of abnormal peritoneum, wherever found in the pelvis, having looked systematically with near contact laparoscopy, and adhesion prevention could reduce the need for repeat surgeries verses ablation treatments.
Historically the treatment of endometriosis has been via ablation, a surgical technique during which burning or vaporizing of areas in which the disease is found using heat, lasers, or electrical energy. While this antiquated style of treatment reduces the surface level disease it does not address the deeper roots of the disease, leading to a recurrent disease state requiring repeat surgeries for many patients.
Additionally, Dr. Yeung examined whether the use of hormonal suppression is necessary and/or beneficial in conjunction with surgical treatment of endometriosis. The results are in! Dr. Yeung’s research shows that, not only is one-and-done excision surgery for
endometriosis a possibility, but that in using this treatment approach the need for repeat surgery after excision is remarkably low, at 2.5%, as compared to historical rates of repeat surgery by ablation.
Dr. Yeung, along with his counterparts at the forefront of revolutionizing treatment for endo, are continuing to prove that excision is the superior treatment in reducing painful and heavy periods, improving natural fertility, enhancing quality of life, and reducing the rate of repeat surgery for women living with endometriosis.
Furthermore, the research shows a significant lack of evidence between using hormonal suppression, such a birth control, Progestin, or Lupron, which have unnecessary side-effects and impacts on hormone regulation and overall health, and the progression or recurrence of endometriosis.
In his quest to treat the root cause of endometriosis, encourage adhesion prevention, and support natural fertility Dr. Yeung hopes to show that a root cause surgery combined with holistic approach to overall health, rather than the use of hormonal suppression, supports the reduction of inflammation and chronic pain, and the long-term results of excision surgery.
This is BIG NEWS! This is a PARADIGM shift!
This is the NEW GOAL for treatment of endometriosis!
NOTE: Sadly, since the release of the PrePrints Publication our beloved Statistician passed away. Revisions or follow-up of the current Preprint article are no longer possible.
